San Francisco doesn't have a lot of local ATV trails, the closest and best ATV riding area in the San Francisco Bay Area is the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area. There may not be a lot of local areas to enjoy your ATV,but this one makes up for it in size alone.
There are only 6 State Vehicular Recreational Areas in California, and this one is one of the best. This ATV area has 1,500 acres with challenging hill-type trail riding, and steep hill-climbs. Elevations are up to 1,800 feet. The park also has a four wheel drive obstacle course and a Observed Trials area. The park has very strict rules about ATV use of the trails, if you bring it in you must take it out with you.
If your ATV is a 2003 model or newer you must have a red sticker issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. If your ATV is older than a 2003 model you will be issued a green sticker. This sticker must be clearly visible on your ATV at all times or you may be fined. If you are a non-resident looking to ride your ATV in the SVRA, you will need a non-resident sticker. Again, your sticker must be placed in a clearly visible area on your ATV.
Summers can be very hot with temperatures reaching 110 plus degrees. Take water with you and drink it often to avoid becoming dehydrated. Have a safe and fun time riding your ATV at the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreational Area!
