Somerville Lake has a great little ATV area for you to explore. The area is undeveloped, very eroded and you will find small pools of water in the lower lying areas (make sure you have someone that can tow your ATV in case you get stuck).
ATV riders are allowed to ride anywhere within the ATV area, there are no marked trails to follow. The ATV area is open all year around and no permit is required. Please use common sense and use all your safety gear when operating your ATV, especially on undeveloped terrain such as this.
Only 3 and 4 wheel ATVs are allowed on these trails along with motorcycles. If your ATV won't fit through the pipe rail fence at the entrance of the ATV trail, you simply can not ride it there. Since you're sharing these trails with other riders and the trails are not clearly marked, do exercise caution. This ATV area is only open from dawn until dusk and there is no camping allowed.
For such a small area, Somerville has a lot of challenges for the more experienced ATV rider. Beginners should stick to the paths closest to the trail head as it is a more open area, the terrain is eroded further into the ATV trails and could be more challenging than some ATV riders would like. Always get a map and see the most current trails so you know what to expect on your ATV ride. That will ensure you ride at Somerville Lake is a fun and safe time.
