California is a beautiful state, and one that is great for ATV riding and exploring at any level of expertise.
The Black Lassic trails are always a favorite. The scenery is legendary, and you can even hike to the top of a dormant volcano. Camping and nearby Lake Ruth provide even more outdoor fun. There is a very nice waterfall loop in the trail where beautiful waterfalls make great picture opportunities.
The Shasta Off Road Park, near Shasta, is another great place to visit with your ATV. Take I-5 to Redding and follow the signs for the Shasta Dam. There is camping available, and the trails are great in the winter too.
One of the most popular spots in California is Glamis, located near Brawley, California. Often cited as one of the best ATV recreational areas in the country, Glamis has great, large dunes and sand drags. It's huge, so you might want to spend several days there. To get there, just take state route 78.
Pismo is another favorite ATV spot. With 2500 acres, Pismo offers lots of area to ride. Camping is available on the beach nearby, but winds from the ocean sometimes make riding difficult. Pismo is just south of San Luis Obispo in the Pismo Dunes State Park.
The Stanislaus National Forest has several great ATV trails. This large park is a little-known gem, offering great scenery and no crowds. At an elevation of over 4000 ft, the trails in the forest offer great mountain and canyon scenery. Trails here range from easy to difficult.
These are just a few of the choices for ATV riding in California. Get out there, start exploring, and be safe!
