1. Always, always, always wear a helmet. A helmet is all that stands between your very important brain and the gravel or dirt road you are flying along. A helmet can minimize impact should you have a crash, and can guard against any injuries to your brain or head. Helmets that cover both your head and face afford safety for delicate facial bones and protect eyes from branches or other low-hanging structures.
2. Plan your route to maximize safety. Never ride on public roads because other cars and trucks on the road pose a threat. ATVs are not licensed for public road travel, and can be difficult for other cars to see. ATVs are not equipped with road safe tires or brakes. A safe trail or path designed for ATV use provides a much better terrain for seeing what your ATV for sale can do.
3. ATVs are not designed for passengers, only ride your ATV alone. If you are looking for an ATV for sale that is passenger appropriate, check with someone trained to sell ATVs for an ATV that fits your needs. In general, passenger travel distributes weight on the ATV differently than the structure of the machine was designed for. Passengers can make turns more difficult, brake time longer, and balance more difficult to attain.
4. Buy an ATV for sale that is appropriate for the rider's age. The ATV Institute has put forth guidelines for younger riders. A machine that is too big for the rider poses a danger to the rider, and may be too difficult for the rider to manage. Riders who are six years or younger should not ride an ATV with an engine larger than 90 cc. Children between six and twelve should ride ATVs between 70 cc and 90 cc. Riders 16 and over can ride machines wit engines at 90 cc or over.
Training courses on rider safety emphasize how to get the most fun out of your ATV for sale and still walk away safe and happy. Safe riding ensures not only the maintenance of your ATV but also protects your body for future rides. Training courses are usually available at different times through the year, and your dealer can help you find the course that will meet your needs.
