What Kind of ATV Rider are you?

The decisive factor to dressing up correctly for your ATV is to first ask yourself, what do you use your ATV for? If you use it for work, hauling cargo, to and from working areas, then you are a working rider.

If you use it for racing and off track tours, then you are an ATV recreational rider. Both of these outdoor activities have its own uses. But one thing is sure, using the proper gear will keep you safe while you work in peace or ride in fun. What should you wear if you are a working rider?

1. Helmet - (DOT) Department of Transportation approved helmet. Pick one helmet that offers full coverage.

2. Motorcycle goggles - this are strapped outside the helmet. Get high quality lenses, tinted or clear. If you were prescription glasses, get these lenses for your goggles.

3. Long sleeved shirt - keeps you from getting scratched. Pick shirts that have large cotton content, although there are good synthetic ones in the market today.

4. Over the ankle boots - Thick leather and low heels to grip the foot rests. Pick boots a size bigger so that you can wear thick socks to protect you from cold.

As a recreational rider, pick protective gear, that are meant for heavy duty rides like:

1. Elbow guards - wear them under the or over the riding jersey. Makes sure they don't impede your movement.

2. Hip pads and knee pads - they cushion and break your fall. You can buy detachable pairs or those that come with the pants. Together with the pants, the more popular materials are made out of leather and denim.

3. Gloves - pick ones designed for your off track rides. They will grip the handle bars securely.

4. Boots - choose a pair that covers you from the knees down. They will cushion your fall.

Just remember that ATVs are a great means of outdoor transportation, but safety should always be your number one concern - ride smart and ride safely!
