Do You Have the Right ATV Safety Equipment?
Before you spend the first penny on ATV safety equipment, it is important that you obtain something that is both more valuable and free - information! By taking the time to round up as much information and training as you can you can insure that the money you spend on ATV safety equipment isn't spent too hastily or wasted altogether.
Once you've gathered together all of the knowledge you can find, you'll be armed with some pretty scary statistics. For instance, in 2001, there were about 112,000 injuries sustained from riding an ATV. Of these, a great deal could've been avoided with the necessary training and the proper ATV safety equipment.
In addition to knowledge, there are a few items that all ATV riders should have:
*A specially designed ATV helmet, approved by one of the leading ATV safety commissions. The helmet is the single most important piece of ATV safety equipment that you will buy. In addition to offering your cranium the utmost protection, seek out a helmet that offers protective covering for your face and eyes too. While this helmet might set you out as much as a few hundred dollars, the alternative of death or serious injury can be a whole lot more costly.
*The rest of your ATV safety equipment is stuff you should already have around the house. When you go out for a ride, make sure you're fully dress in jeans and a long sleeved shirt. This will offer you better protection from debris or accidents. Avoid shorts and short sleeved shirts as much as humanly possible.
*Wear boots or at least close-toed shoes!
However, keep in mind one thing - regardless of what ATV safety equipment you use, there is no surefire way to guarantee you won't face an accident or injury. However, being armed with the proper ATV safety equipment, knowledge of how to properly operate an ATV, and a little common sense, you can improve your chances of safety and survival.
