ATV Training In Oregon

ATV training is a requirement if the ATV rider is between the ages of 7 and 17 years of age, or any ATV rider who does not possess a driver's license. The ATV Operator's Permit is required for those situation and it's just good sense to take a safety and training course even if you think you know more than any human should about ATV riding.

In order to take a safety class in Oregon, they require the following from you : a DOT approved helmet, goggles, boots, gloves, your own ATV and a willingness to learn about safe and responsible operation of ATVs. If you do not have an ATV of your own, arrangements may be made to enable you to borrow one for training use.

In the course, you will learn Oregon laws regarding ATV riding, safety inspections prior to riding, how to ride defensively and courteously. How to better control your ATV in several different weather situations, and safe riding techniques such as starting and stopping, turning (gradual and quick), hills (stopping, u-turns, traversing), emergency stopping and swerving and riding over obstacles.. Upon the course's completion, you will be issued an ATV course completion card which shall be considered a temporary operator permit until the permanent ATV operator permit is issued by the Department.

Ride a Quad that's right for your rider's age, The guidelines are:
Age 6 and older = Under 70cc
Age 12 and older = 70cc-90cc
Age 16 and older = Over 90cc

All riders younger than 16 should be supervised by an adult well versed in ATV safety and handling.
