Riding your ATV in Florida
ATV riding in Florida can be an exciting experience. Before making a trip, you should know the location of the good riding trails and what you should take with you. Also, when going ATV riding in Florida, you may want to check out some of the ATV riding clubs such as The Florida Trail Riders, North Florida Riders Association, 3 Legged Dawgs and ATV Trail Hogs. Most clubs are open to adults or families.
One of the favorite destinations for ATV riding in Florida is the Croom's Sand Hill in the Withlacoochee State Forest. Also known as "The Pit," this is an open area that is very sandy during the dry season, but can be filled with many ruts when it rains. Other sites for great ATV riding in Florida include the Croom Cliffs, Small Lake, Laurain Gulch and Hill Area, all found in the Withlacoochee State Forest as well.
Another great place for ATV riding in Florida is the Ocala National Forest. ATV riders may only ride in certain places, but the Big Scrub Campgrounds is a favorite.
Big Cypress National Preserve also offers ATV riding in Florida. In addition to ATV riding in Florida, this lovely preserve also offers other outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing and camping.
While ATV riding in Florida, be aware of all the state laws and ATV rules. You should know that riding ATVs on Florida public roads is illegal. Some trails, such as those in the Withlacoochee State Forest, require an ATV permit, for which you will need your title. These permits help fund future ATV trail development.
